Being a good business is good business

Black Swan Management’s approach to citizenship is a full-time commitment with the same goals, strategies, and accountabilities that drive any other part of our business.  We are committed to taking on many of the tough challenges facing our community.  Our status as citizens in the communities in which we do business prompted us to make a commitment  — make money, make it ethically and make a difference.  This commitment enables us to make contributions and create value for society in ways that are consistent with the business strategy of Black Swan Management.

Our employees demonstrate a tireless personal commitment to work together and deliver great outcomes for communities in need. In fact, we are on track to give a record number of volunteer hours this year on key community initiatives such as education, the environment, public policy, literacy, homelessness, poverty, human rights and disaster relief.

Just as we approach business and investing with a contrarian perspective, we are responding to the economic downturn in a different fashion as well.  Our people contribute their time, money and professional skills to community projects, both as individuals and within their teams. Black Swan Management makes a difference each year in big ways and small through our hands-on dedication to people in need.  We usually try to observe the wisdom offered in Matthew 6:1 (Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.) but from time to time we will publicize our efforts to be good citizens, especially when the publicity could result in helping more people in need.

So, from time to time we will update this page with information related to the tough challenges facing our community and ask for YOUR help as we strive to create value for society.

On Saturday, March 20, 2010, The American Lung Association will host its fourth annual Philadelphia Fight For Air Climb at the Bell Atlantic Tower.

We’ve joined hundreds of others throughout our community to raise funds for the American Lung Association and to fight lung disease. Please join us in our efforts to make an impact in the lives of the estimated 35 million Americans who suffer from lung disease. Your donation to the American Lung Association can help make an impact by funding life saving research, education and advocacy efforts.

Fight for Air Climb is a vertical 50-flight climb to the top of the Bell Atlantic Tower. This Climb is a professionally timed race with start times every 15 seconds, giving participants an opportunity to compete against the clock and conquer their quest to the top!

The Fight For Air Climb is more than just a climb-it is a fundraising event to fight lung disease. As such, all participants must procure pledges and fundraise in addition to registration. There is a required minimum fundraising amount of $100 in order to climb but we know together we can easily raise much more! Please find it in your heart to make a committment–like $1 a step– it’s easier than you think. Pledge a penny, a nickel, or a dime a step and it adds up quickly!

All proceeds benefit the fight against lung disease.

The Bell Atlantic Tower is located at 1717 Arch St., Philadelphia, PA.The building has 50 Stories, equaling 1,088 steps.

Remember that for over 38 million Americans suffering from chronic lung disease, just taking a single breath can be a challenge.

Black Swan Management, LLC co-founder Anthony Sills, MBA will be representing Black Swan as a member of the Excellence To The Top Team.

Visit our team’s site where you can either sign up to join us on the Climb or donate!

“Thank You” to all of the individuals who showed their support for American Lung Association through their generous donations.  The 2010 Fight For Air Stair Climb was a huge success and also a fun time for everyone involved.  Philadelphia’s Mayor Michael A. Nutter gave the opening remarks.  The Delaware Valley’s EMT, Firefighters, Military Personnel, and Police also showed up in force.

According to the ALA of Pennsylvania, so far we’ve helped raised over $117,000 for the fight against lung disease and that amount continues to climb!! There is still time to donate to climbers & the event. This event wouldn’t have been possible without the support and dedication of all of you…so…THANK YOU!

one of the worst disasters we’ve ever seen.
